"My Mother’s death was
  much more peaceful than I
  had ever dreamed. We
were able to take care of
  her at home. The Hospice
  Staff took such loving care
of her. In such a short
  time, they became
  part of our family."

Hospice care involves an Interdisciplinary Team of professional and volunteers who provide medical, psychological and spiritual support for patients diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Working together as a team, a specialized plan of care is designed by physicians, nurses, social workers chaplains, counselors, volunteers and therapists. Focused on pain management and symptom control, this palliative care is offered to patients in their homes, rest homes, skilled nursing facilities and the Morrison Manor.

Services provided by Hospice of Scotland County

Physician Directed Care is provided under the supervision of the patient’s primary physician. The Hospice Medical Director is available for consultation.

    Nursing Services
include frequent assessments of the patient’s condition, routine care visits, instruction for the caregivers and assistance with pain management and symptom control. A
24 hour / 7 day on-call nursing service is provided.

    Certified Nursing Assistants
are available to provide personal care services and respite, at appropriate times.

Hospice Social Workers are advocates for their patients and family members. During the initial assessment, the social workers determine appropriate community resources that would be beneficial to the patient and how to expeditiously access them. By addressing logistical, legal and financial needs, social workers help families find solutions to challenging problems that can become unmanageable during a crisis.

    Chaplains and Bereavement Counselors
Upon request, Chaplains provide spiritual support with respect for individual values and beliefs. Many patients and their family members benefit from the emotional support, spiritual guidance and prayer offered by the chaplains. They are also available to assist with memorial services, funerals, baptisms and marriages.

    Trained Volunteers
offer companionship, emotional support, and transportation. Other volunteers assist with office work and fund raising events.

Ancillary Services are provided when needs are identified and can include dietary consultation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy and medical equipment
